She was born in Calcutta but grew up in Delhi. She moved to Bangalore and then Chennai during college. It was while working in advertising that she was given the opportunity to sing composer Deva’s “Kokkara Giri Giri” in the 2001 Tamil film, “Chocolate”. She has since then worked with A.R. Rahman, Illayaraja, Yuvan Shankar Raja and many others.
Her classical music training began at the age of 6. Her first teacher was Smt. Rama Devi in Delhi. She has also taken lessons in hindustani classical and western classical.
In 2011, she appeared on Coke Studio@MTV along with KK, Sabri Brothers, Sanjay Vidyarthi and Leslie Lewis.
