Mohammed Shafi was a music director in Bollywood active since the 1950s up until the 1990s. “Annadata” (1952) is one of his famous compositions.
He has been an assistant to music directors Naushad Ali and is credited with launching singer Suman Kalyanpur in the movie “Mangu” (1954), for which he shared credits with O.P. Nayyar. Asha Bhosle, Talat Mehmood, Lata Mangeshkar, Shamshad Begum, Mohammed Rafi, G. M. Durrani, Hemant Kumar, Geeta Dutt and Kishore Kumar are some of the singers he has collaborated with in the industry. The songs he set to tune have been written by the likes of Wahid Qureshi, Prem Dhawan, Tanveer Naqvi, Sarshar Sailani, S. T. Husaini and Qafil Azar.
