Monica Dogra is an American singer and actress in the Hindi film industry. Raised in America, this singer of Indian origin is half of the electro-rock duo “Shaa’ir and Func”.
Though her parents hail from Kashmir, she was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland. She is the niece of the Dogra folk musician Prakash Sharma. She graduated form NYU in 2004 with a Music degree.

“Shaa’ir and Func”, the other half of which is guitarist Randolph Correia, released their first album, “New Day: The Love Album” in 2007. The duo has gone on to record two more albums: “Light Tribe” (2008) and “Mantis” (2010). In 2010 she sang the song “Dooriyan Bhi Hai Zaroori” in Vishal Dadlani’s “Break Ke Baad”. She was the female lead in Kiran Rao’s 2011 movie “Dhobi Ghat”. She also gave a guest appearance in Farhan Akhtar’s “Rock On!!” (2008).
December 2011 saw her as the judge on Rolling Stone’s musical talent contest “Never Hide Sounds”. She also hosts a show on Star World India based on musical collaborations called “The Dewarists”.
