Monty Sharma, born in Mumbai on April 17, 1970, is a music composer in Bollywood. Trained in music from the age of five under the able guidance of his grandfather Pandit Ram Prasad Sharma, Monty began his career as a keyboard player with Laxmikant-Pyarelal of whom the latter was his uncle. He was all of sixteen years then and the movie was “Mr. India” (1987).
He went on to work with most musical stalwarts in Bollywood namely Laxmikant-Pyeralal , R.D. Burman, Rajesh Roshan, Nadeem-Shravan, Jatin-Lalit, Ismail Darbar and Sanjeev-Darshan. He was seen on the judging panel of the popular reality show STAR Voice of India 2 (2008). He has also been seen on the silver screen in a couple of movies.
Monty Sharma has composed background score for movies like “U Me Aur Hum” (2008), “Apne” (2007), “Lucky: No Time for Love” (2005), “Black” (2005) and “Devdas” (2002). His musical creations have appeared as songs in movies like “Saawariya” (2007), “Right Yaaa Wrong” (2008), “Fox” (2008), “Chamku” (2008), “Heroes” (2008), “Vaada Raha” (2009) and “Mirch” (2010).
He has won many accolades for his gift. In the year 2006 he has won four Best Background Score awards for the movie “Black” (2005) which are Filmfare Award, Star Screen Award, IIFA Award and Zee Cine Award. His kitty also includes 2008 Filmfare R. D. Burman Award for New Music Talent and 2008 Set Max Stardust Award for Music for the Hindi film “Saawariya”.
