Piyush Mishra is an Indian film and theatre actor, playwright and scriptwriter who has also proved his mettle in the roles of a lyricist, playback singer and composer. Hailing from Gwalior, Piyush passed out of National School of Drama, New Delhi in 1986.
He has written the lines for songs in movies like “Dil Pe Mat Le Yaar” (2000), “Aaja Nachle” (2007), “Tashan” (2008) and “Gulaal” (2009). Songs in the popular soundtrack of the movie “Black Friday” (2004) rendered by the Indian band Indian Ocean were also written by Piyush.
He has composed music for Anurag Kashyap’s “Gulaal” (2009) and for the song “Oh Re Bande” in “Lahore” (2010). In “Gulaal” he recreated the musical feel of the 1960s and 70s as it was a tribute to the eminent lyricist Sahir Ludhianvi. He has gone all out for this movie having sung the songs “Aarambh Hai Prachand”, “Duniya” and “Jab Sheher Hamara” and being the lyricist of the movie.
One of the popular songs sung by him is “Chhaliya” from the 2009 Kareena-Saif movie “Tashan”. He has also penned the lines for two of its songs, namely, “Tashan Mein” and “Dil Haara.” He has worked with popular music directors like Salim-Sulaiman, Vishal-Shekhar and M. M. Kreem.
