Richard Clayderman is a French pianist who has been active in his field since 1976. With over 1300 melodies in his repertoire, The Guinness Book of World Records calls him The Most Successful Pianist in the World.
Born on 28 December 1953 in Paris, France, as Philippe Pagès, he picked up playing the piano from his father who was a piano teacher. He took on his grandfather’s name, Richard Clayderman, so that his surname, Pagès, wouldn’t be mispronounced. His debut album, “Ballad Pour Adeline”, French record producer Oliver Toussaint’s tribute to his daughter, became a runaway hit and sold over 22 million copies in 38 countries. In Bollywood, he has composed the instrumental piece “Yeh Dhuan Dhuan” in the 2004 Anurag Basu movie “Tumsa Nahi Dekha-A Love Story”. Nadeem-Shravan were the music directors for the film.
He is married to Christine and lives with her and their son Peter and their daughter Maud in Saint-Ouen near Paris.
