Shweta Shetty is a playback singer in Hindi films. In the 1990s, she was the pop icon of India and has sold over 13 million records worldwide.
Born in 1969 in Mumbai, her career began at the age of 17 with singing jingles for advertisements. She was launched by music producer Biddu and her first album was “Johnny Joker” (1993). Over the years she has worked with musicians like Frank Peterson, Jam & Spoon, Sarah Brightman and Gregorian.

In 1994 she worked with A. R. Rahman in the movie “Roja” to sing the song “Rukmani Rukmani” along with Baba Sehgal. In 1996 she was nominated for the Best Female Playback Singer at the Filmfare Awards for her rendition of “Mangta Hain Kya” from the film “Rangeela”.
Some of the movies she has sung in include “Rock Dancer” (1995), “Khel Khiladi Ka” (1996), “Aflatoon” (1997), “Bandhan” (1998), “Keemat” (1998) and “Love You Hamesha” (1999). She married a German, Christian Brandt, in 1997 and now lives in Hamburg, Germany.
