Subir Sen was a playback singer active in Bengali films in the 1950s and 1960s. He also sang in Hindi films. Hemant Kumar’s popularity in Bengali films helped the careers of many singers who sounded like him - Subir Sen was one of them.
Music director duo, Shankar - Jaikishan introduced Subir Sen into the Hindi film industry with the song “Manzil Wahi Hai Pyar Ki” (“Kathputli”, 1957). They were particularly fond of him and ended up using him the most in Hindi films. However, his limited range and relatively better prospects in Bengali films, limited his career in Bollywood.
Other than playback singing, Subir Sen has also tried his hand at acting in Hindi and Bengali films.
