Born on 2 September 1965 in Darbhanga, Bihar, Tochi Raina hails from Patiala, Punjab and grew up in Nepal before moving to New Delhi. It was there that that he learned music from Pandit Vinod Kumar, a disciple of Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan. Other teachers he has learnt from include Ustad Bhure Khan, Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Ustad Altaf Hussain Sarang, Pandit Mani Prasad and Pandit Sitaram.

Following his move to Mumbai to pursue a career in music, his first break came with “Bulle Shah” (“A Wednesday”, 2008). He is best known for songs with Sufi and Punjabi folk influences like “Pardesi” (“Dev D”, 2009), “Gal Mitthi Mitthi” (“Aisha”, 2010), “Dilli” (“No One Killed Jessica”, 2011) and “Saibo” (“Shor in the City”, 2011).
Off Bollywood, Tochi Raina has worked with ad jingles, music shows and TV programmes. He appeared in the first season of Coke Studio, India in a collaboration with singer, Mathangi Rajshekar.
