Uday Benegal is a singer, songwriter, composer, writer and filmmaker. He is the face of one of the pioneering rock bands of India, Indus Creed (formerly known as Rock Machine). They were extremely popular from the 1980s to the late 1990s. Other bands he has been a part of are Indo-rock funk band Alms for Shanti (now defunct) and the acoustic band Whirling Kalapas. His career began in 1988 as the lead voice of Indus Creed.

He has sung playback in Bollywood on a couple of occasions. He sang the song “Life Is Crazy” along with Shankar Mahadevan in the film “Wake Up Sid” in 2009. The song was written by Javed Akhtar and directed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy. Ten years earlier, in 1999, he had associated with Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy when he sang the song “Comatose” in the Nagesh Kukkunoor film “Rockford”.
