Vasant Dev is a National Award winning lyricist in the Hindi film industry most active during the 1980s. He won that accolade for his songs in the much acclaimed Mahesh Bhatt movie “Saaransh” (1984).

Another award to his credit is the 1986 Filmfare for the song “Dil Kyon Behka” in the Girish Karnad movie “Utsav” (1985). The songs were set to tune by Laxmikant-Pyarelal. Along with Laxmikant Pyarelal, Ajit Varman is the other music director Dev has worked with extensively.
