1994 - Filmfare Awards - Best Male Playback Singer - Kumar Sanu
Trivia
Javed Akhtar wrote this song with actress Madhuri Dixit in mind. The film's director, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, had wanted to cast his "Parinda" (1989) actress for this film but could not do so since Madhuri Dixit did not have dates available. It was only then that Manisha Koirala was cast for the role.[1]
Vidhu Vinod Chopra had re-scheduled the recording of this song when an unkempt Kumar Sanu had turned up at the studio. The song was recorded the next day after Sanu spruced himself up.[2]
The lyrics of this song, specifically the series of lines starting with the word "jaise", may have been inspired by the lyrics Josh Malihabadi wrote for the Hindi film song "More Jubna Ka Dekho Ubhaar Papi" ("Mun Ki Jeet", 1944). The risque lyrics of "Mora Jubna..." had created quite a buzz at the time. The Film India magazine had written this about Josh's songwriting - "He has clearly prostituted his mighty pen in writing those filthy lines.".[3]
This song was plagiarised by music director M.M. Srilekha for the Telugu film song "O Srivennelo" ("Kondapalli Rathaiah", 1995).[4]
