The Anthony Gonsalves in the title of this song was a real person. He was a music arranger, perhaps Bollywood's first, and Pyarelal's mentor. The song was a tribute to him. In fact, Amitabh's character in this film was initially named Anthony Fernandes. It was on Pyarelal's request that Desai agreed to change his name.[1]
One of the highlights of this song was Amitabh Bachchan's comic delivery of nonsensical lines in English. One of these lines - "You see the whole country of the system is juxtaposition by the haemoglobin in the atmosphere because you are a sophisticated rhetorician intoxicated by the exuberance of your own verbosity." - was adapted from an address by the British Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli in 1878 targetting his political opponent William Ewart Gladstone.
A 2008 film directed by E. Niwas was named after the title of this song.[2]
