This song was not originally planned for the film and A.R. Rahman had to convince Rakesh Omprakash Mehra to get it included.[MR16]
This was the first film song in which A.R. Rahman used the Continuum Fingerboard. The Continuum was developed by a University of Illinois professor, Lippold Haken. Rahman's interest in the Continuum stemmed from the fact that it was a keyboard-like instrument that allowed micro-intonation of notes, and therefore had the ability to play Indian classical music. Rahman's first public performance on the Continuum was in a sold-out concert at the Sears Center in Chicago, with Professor Lippold Haken in the audience.[1]
