This was singer Vijay Benedict's first hit Hindi film song. He had debuted earlier with a song in the film "Des Pardes" (1978).[1]
When lyricist Anjaan had got stuck while writing this song, director B. Subhash had asked him to take a break. Subhash had then chanced upon a book in which Michael Jackson's mother had said that her son could dance before he could walk and sing before he could talk. Subhash told Anjaan that this was what he wanted the song to convey. It was based on this brief that Anjaan came up with the lyrics of the song's first antara.[2]
The prelude of this song was adapted from the song "The Love Stealers" (1982) by Saint Tropez.[3]
