Trivia

  • This song is said to be based on the Bengali song "Arunakanti Ke Go" by Kazi Nazrul Islam. However, in the Jaimala program he presented for Vividh Bharti in 1972, S.D. Burman picked this song as one of his best compositions and cited a Raag Ahir Bhairav composition by Ustad Mushtaq Hussain Khan as his inspiration.[1][MR3]
  • When Manna Dey recorded this song in Mehboob Studios in one take, the recording room fell silent. Manna Dey thought he had made a mistake and a re-recording was required. S.D. Burman then came into the room and told him that everyone was speechless because they had been moved to tears by his beautiful singing.[MR6]
