O.P. Nayyar had composed this song at the beginning of his career for a non-film record. The original version of the song was sung by C.H. Atma and its lyrics by written by O.P. Nayyar's wife Saroj Mohini Nayyar. The film credited only Majrooh Sultanpuri who wrote the remaining songs in the film. It appears that the song was added to the film since it featured the name of the film's hero, Preetam. R.D. Burman recorded a parody of this song decades later for the film "Angoor" (1982).[1][2][MR4]
