Composers Sachin-Jigar may be Mumbai-bred city slickers, but they’ve mastered the art of capturing the sonic pulse of India’s heartland. On Dasvi, which centres on the aspirations of a north Indian politician, their work is visceral, with the whistles and drums of “Macha Macha Re” and psychedelic disco of “Ghani Trip” evocative of street celebrations. “Thaan Liya” recalls their feel-good anthems for Hindi Medium and Angrezi Medium which, like Dasvi, were also themed around education. And they get an A+ for the jaunty “Nakhralo” with Rajasthani folk singer Mame Khan.
