Composer Karan Kulkarni’s pastiche of styles on Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota sound both familiar and fresh. You’ll play “spot the pop-culture reference” when you listen to “Rappan Rappi Rap”, a track seemingly inspired by Mark Ronson’s “Uptown Funk” that quotes cult films and nods to everything from Pac-Man to Pokémon. There are tunes with plenty of humour and tempo, including bhangra rap hybrid “Kitthon Da Tu Superstar”, electro-rock romp “Nakhrewaali” and surf-guitar number “Life Mein Fair Chance Kiska (Jimmy Mani Song)”. More mellow numbers come in the form of R&B duet “Tere Liye” and the jazzy, English-language track “Dreamtime”.
