Trivia

    Album

  • This film was shown in film festivals around the world but didn't get a theatrical release.
  • Shabana Azmi agreed to sing four songs in this film, albeit reluctantly. She sang only two other Hindi film songs in her career - "Kitti Baar Bola Na" ("Mandi", 1983) and "Jingle Bodmas" ("Chalk N Duster", 2016). However, her songs in this film were unique because unlike the other two songs in her career, they were conventional, semi-classical melodies.[1][2][3]
  • This film was inspired by a real-life organization called Self Employed Women's Association (Lucknow). The organisation was created with the aim of eliminating the exploitation of women chikan artisans of Lucknow.
  • The film opened with Muzaffar Ali reciting lines from Faiz Ahmed Faiz's nazm Intisab - "Aaj ke naam / Aur aaj ke gham ke naam / Aaj ka gham jo zindagi ke bhare gulistan se khafa / Zard patton ka ban / Zard patton ka ban jo mera des hai / Dard ki anjuman jo mera des hai". It appears that it is this poem that inspired the film's title. The film was dedicated to Faiz Ahmed Faiz.

    Song

  • Kab Yaad Mein Tera Saath Nahin - 1 - This was probably the only Hindi film song sung by the husband-wife pair of Khayyam and Jagjit Kaur.
