• The film was said to be based on various real-life caste-related crimes including the 2014 Badaun "gang rape" case and the 2016 Una flogging incident.[1]
• Director Anubhav Sinha was keen on using the song "Blowin' in the Wind" (1963) by Bob Dylan in the film. He got in touch with Dylan's long-time manager Jeff Rosen through a friend of his. On hearing Sinha's request, Rosen asked him to go ahead and use the song. He only asked for a "token amount" Sinha could afford as royalty for it. The director wouldn't reveal the amount he paid but was quoted as saying, "What we paid is a big dent to our budget, but worth every penny.". The film opened with an image of Dylan and the message - "Special thanks".[2][3]
• Anubhav Sinha dedicated the film to his director friends. The dedication read - "This film is dedicated to five of my director friends for being so outstanding and inspiring with what they do. (In alphabetical order) Anurag Kashyap, Hansal Mehta, Shoojit Sircar, Sudhir Mishra, Vishal Bharadwaj".

• साँवरे से बाँवरे से दो नैना ये - This was music director Piyush Shankar's debut Hindi film song.
• कहब तो लग जाई धक से - Actress Sayani Gupta turned singer with this song which was filmed on her.
