- This song almost did not get recorded. Another song in the film was accidentally given to both Yogesh and Gulzar. Eventually Yogesh's lyrics - "Naa ro ankhiyaan" - remained unused since Hrishikesh Mukherjee had already planned to shoot the song with Gulzar's lyrics. To compensate Yogesh, the filmmakers decided to come up with a situation for a new song. It is in these circumstances that Yogesh wrote the lyrics for this memorable song. Yogesh apparently wrote three antaras for the song but only two were recorded and used in the film. Manna Dey used to sing all three antaras in his live shows.[1][MR10]
- Salil Chowdhury had composed the tune of this song for the film "Anand Mahal" (1977). However, when "Anand Mahal" (1977) was delayed, he decided to use the tune in this film instead. "Anand Mahal" (1977) was eventually shelved but its soundtrack album was released in 1977.[2][MR10]
