Trivia

    Album

  • This film saw five debuts - those of music director Shankar - Jaikishan, and lyricists Shailendra, Hasrat Jaipuri, Ramesh Shastri and Jalal Malihabadi.
  • Not wanting to sell his poetry, lyricist Shailendra had turned down Raj Kapoor's offer for his previous film "Aag" (1948). Later when Shailendra's wife developed a medical complication, he approached Raj Kapoor for financial assistance and got Rs. 500 from him. When Shailendra went Raj Kapoor to return the loan, Raj Kapoor refused the money and asked him to give him two songs instead. It was in these circumstances that Shailendra made his film debut.[1]
  • A scene from this 1949 film, featuring Raj Kapoor with a violin in one hand and cradling Nargis in another, went on to become an intrinsic part of R.K. Films as it came to be used for the banner's logo.
  • Session musician Joe Menezes played all the solo violin pieces in the film. He also made a cameo appearance in it playing the waltz composition "Waves of the Danube" by Josef Ivanovici aka Ion Ivanovici. At the end of the performance, he had a scene in which Nargis's character held on to his legs and required him to kick her away. Menezes was very nervous during the shoot, which consequently required many takes. "Waves of the Danube" became a recurring theme in Raj Kapoor's films, "Mera Naam Joker" (1963) being the most prominent among them.[2][3]

    Song

  • Jiya Beqarar Hai Chhayi Bahaar Hai - According to Raj Kapoor, this was the first Hindi film song composed by Shankar Singh Raghuvanshi of the Shankar - Jaikishan duo. It appears that the tune of the mukhda was inspired by a folk song, "Ambua Ka Ped Hai". Anu Malik later adapted this tune for the Hindi film song "Ambua Ka Ped Hai" ("Tejaa", 1990). Hasrat Jaipuri, who wrote both songs, reused the folk song lyrics for the mukhda of the 1990 song.[4][5]
  • Main Zindagi Mein Har Dum Rota Hi Raha Hoon - Anu Malik plagiarised the tune of this song for the Hindi film song "Barsaat Mein Jab Aayega Sawan Ka Mahina" ("Maa", 1992).[6]
