Trivia

    Album

  • The film's score made extensive use of qawwalis and is credited with popularising the musical form in Hindi films.[MR6]
  • Producer R. Chandra had initially offered this film to music director Khayyam with the condition that he use the tune of a popular Pakistani qawwali for it. When Khayyam refused to meet this condition, the producer brought Roshan on board. Roshan made the most of the opportunity and composed a soundtrack that was met with critical and popular acclaim.[MR10]
  • The screenplay of the film "Barsaat Ki Raat" (1960) was co-written by the lead actor Late Bharat Bhushan (co-P.L. Santoshiji - also the director of the film). He married his co-star Ratna (the actress who played the role of Shabab) after the film's release.

    Song

  • Garjat Barsat Saawan Aayo Re - This song was used in the film's opening credits. Roshan had used the same tune earlier for the title song of the film "Malhar" (1951).[1]
  • Zindagi Bhar Nahin Bhoolegi Woh Barsaat Ki Raat (Duet) - Manohari Singh played the saxophone solo in the opening of this song.[2]
  • Na To Karvan Ki Talash Hai - Roshan based this qawwali, considered a Hindi film classic, on the popular qawwali "Na To Butkade Ki Talab Mujhe" sung by Ustad Mubarak Ali Khan and Ustad Fateh Ali Khan, Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan's father. Even Sahir Ludhianvi's lyrics for the song were inspired by the words of the original qawwali.
