Trivia

    Album

  • This film was based on the Kannada novel "Hamsageethe" by T.R. Subbarao (Ta Ra Su). The novel was apparently based on the true life story of the 18th century Carnatic musician, Bhairavi Venkatasubbaiah. Two decades later, the novel was adapted by filmmaker G.V. Iyer for a Kannada film of the same name. The Kannada film was awarded the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Kannada. Dr. M. Balamuralikrishna won the National Film Award for Best Male Playback Singer for his songs in "Hamsageethe" (1975).[1][MR10]

    Song

  • Main Piya Teri Tu Maane Ya Na Maane - Pannalal Ghosh played the flute in this song.[MR7]
  • Ketaki Gulab Juhi Champak Ban Phoole - When Manna Dey was told by music directors Shankar - Jaikishan that he would be "winning" against Pandit Bhimsen Joshi in this classical jugalbandi, he was reluctant to sing this song. It took a lot of convincing for him to eventually agree. In an interview, Manna Dey once said that he went away from Bombay and lived in Pune for fifteen days after the film was released in order to escape potential embarrassment.[MR3]
