Trivia

    Album

  • It was said that Shah Rukh Khan's character in this film was inspired by the goalkeeper of the Indian hockey team, Mir Ranjan Negi, who, it was alleged, had thrown away India's game against Pakistan in the 1982 Asian Games by conceding seven goals. However, according to the film's writer, Jaideep Sahni, the similarities between Shah Rukh Khan's character in the film and Mir Ranjan Negi were coincidental. Negi had worked as a consultant in this film.[1][2]

    Song

  • Chak De India - Salim - Sulaiman made seven attempts at composing this song and each of those tunes was rejected by Aditya Chopra. The music director duo was dejected and close to quitting the film when Chopra sang to them the opening line of the song to the tune of "Jumma Chumma De De" ("Hum", 1991) and told them that he wanted a song with the energy of this Laxmikant - Pyarelal song. An inspired Salim - Sulaiman then sat with lyricist Jaideep Sahni to rework the song's lyrics to come up with the tune which was eventually approved and recorded.[3][4]
  • Maula Mere Le Le Meri Jaan - This song was added to the film on the suggestion of Yash Chopra the patriarch of the Yash Raj Films banner. Music directors Salim - Sulaiman were given the requirement for this song just two weeks before the film's release. The composers were frantic as they knew that there was no way they could come up with a new tune in such a short period. The duo then remembered a tune they had initially composed for the song "Yeh Hausla" ("Dor", 2006) but which filmmaker Nagesh Kukunoor had rejected. It was this rejected tune that went on to be used for this song.[5][6]
