- Basu Chatterjee had wanted to use his long-time associate music director Salil Chowdhury for this film. However, he had to use Ravindra Jain for the film on the insistence of Rajkumar Barjatya of Rajshri Films.[MR10]
- This film was based on the Bengali story "Chittachakor" by Subodh Ghosh.
- Rajshri Productions remade this film in 2003 as "Main Prem Ki Deewani Hoon".[1]
- This film represented Yesudas's peak in Hindi films. He sang all four songs in the film - all of which were hits. He also won his only National Film Award for Best Male Playback Singer for a song in this film.
- This film was remade in Telugu as "Ammayi Manasu" (1981) and in Malayalam as "Minda Poochakku Kalyanam" (1990). The Tamil film "Ullam Kavarntha Kalvan" (1987) and the Kannada film "Panchama Veda" (1990) also appear to have been adapted from this film.
