Trivia

    Album

  • This was the third of the series of films in which Zoya Akhtar directed her brother Farhan Akhtar. All three films were produced by Excel Entertainment, had music by Shankar - Ehsaan - Loy, and featured lyrics by Zoya and Farhan's father, Javed Akhtar. The other films in the series were "Luck By Chance" (2009) and "Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara" (2011). The title of this film was taken from the title of a song in "Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara" (2011).[1][2]
  • Zoya Akhtar showed the film to Aamir Khan a few weeks before its release. In this version of the film, the voice of Pluto, the dog, was provided by Javed Akhtar, who had also written its lines. When Aamir told Zoya that he loved the film, she asked him if he would be willing to dub for Pluto's lines. Aamir was surprised at the offer since he thought that Javed Akhtar had done a good job, but took it up since he liked the film so much.[3]
  • Zoya Akhtar had signed real-life cousins Ranbir and Kareena Kapoor in 2012 to play siblings in this film. However, Ranbir's schedule became packed by 2013 and he excused himself from the film. He was then replaced by Ranveer Singh. Kareena Kapoor also opted out since she could not be away from home for three months as required by the film's shooting schedule. Priyanka Chopra came on board in her place.[4][5][6]
  • It took Zoya Akhtar a year to convince Anil Kapoor to do the film's lead role. He signed up for the film after being coaxed and cajoled by Aamir Khan, Javed Akhtar, Farhan Akhtar, and his son Harshvardhan.[7]
