This film was an adaptation of the Polish film "A Short Film About Love" (1988).
Manisha Koirala alleged that director Shashilal Nair had inserted a sexually explicit scene in the film using her body double without her consent. She went to court over this issue and secured a stay order for the film. In a later hearing, however, the Bombay High Court admonished Koirala for going to Shiva Sena's Bal Thackeray to enforce the stay order. Shiv Sena workers had disrupted the screening of the film in several Mumbai theatres after Koirala's meeting with Thackeray. The court held both Koirala and Shashilal Nair guilty of contempt of court. No punitive action was taken against them after they apologised to the court.[1][2]
