• Actress Nandita Das debuted as a writer and director in this film.
• The film, based on the 2002 Gujarat riots, was released weeks before the 2009 Lok Sabha elections. BJP complained to the Election Commission that the film's release had been timed to influence the voters against them in the upcoming elections. They alleged the hand of the Congress party-led Central government behind the film. BJP alleged that the film was toeing the government's line since the Government of India had awarded its producers, Percept Group, the Rs. 100 crore Bharat Nirman ad campaign. They pointed out that while the filmmakers had organised a special screening for Rahul Gandhi, the Congress party's general secretary, they had denied the Gujarat government's request to organise a screening for Chief Minister Narendra Modi. It appears that Election Commission dismissed BJP's complaint and allowed the film to be released.[1]
