Trivia

    Album

  • The paintings that featured in the title credits of this film were by M.F. Hussain. The paintings were credited as the artist's tribute to Raj Kapoor.
  • This film was the Indian debut of the Pakistani actress Zeba Bakhtiar.
  • This film was conceived by Raj Kapoor, and Randhir Kapoor completed it after his death in 1988. Two of the songs in the film had been recorded while Raj Kapoor was still alive - "Chitthiye" and "Main Der Karta Nahin".[1]
  • The dialogues in the film were written by the Pakistani writer Haseena Moin. However, she was concerned that associating herself with a Bollywood project might have repercussions for her in Pakistan and asked Randhir Kapoor to remove her name from the film's credits.[2]
  • Haseena Moin, the film's dialogue-writer, influenced two key casting decisions in the film. It was she who recommended that Rishi Kapoor play the male lead in the film instead of Rajiv Kapoor. She also suggested Zeba Bakhtiar's name for the film's female lead.[3]
  • Raj Kapoor had wanted to shoot this film in Pakistan. Keeping his vision in mind, Randhir Kapoor had sought the necessary permissions from the Pakistani government but when they didn't come on time, he started shooting the film in Manali and Austria. The Pakistani government did eventually allow the film-makers to shoot in Pakistan. Most of the shooting had been done by then but Randhir Kapoor ended up shooting one scene for the film at the Faisal Mosque in Islamabad.[4]

    Song

  • Anar Dana - Naqsh Lyallpuri wrote the original lyrics of this song but Ravindra Jain decided to record it with his own lyrics. He did, however, take a couple of lines from Naqsh's original lyrics.[5]
