Trivia

    Album

  • Madhur Bhandarkar launched this film in Cannes with Aishwarya Rai. However, when he became aware that she was pregnant, Aishwarya exited the film and Kareena Kapoor was brought in.[MR12]
  • An NGO called Health Related Information Dissemination Amongst Youth (HRIDAY) objected to a newspaper advertisement of this film showing Kareena Kapoor smoking. They sent a letter to the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting stating that the filmmakers had flouted laws that regulated the depiction of tobacco use in films. The Censor Board gave the film an 'A' rating and asked that a statutory warning be placed in all scenes that showed smoking. The filmmakers went to court to appeal against this order. Their objection was that since Kareena's character was shown smoking for one-third of the film's length, the statutory warning would be displayed for much of the film as well.[1][2]
  • The reference to Dubai made by Kareena Kapoor's character in the film's trailer created a controversy. The line in question went "You media people should be writing scripts. If a heroine buys a car, it's gifted to her by a businessman. If she goes to LA, she's getting plastic surgery done, and, God forbid, if she goes to Dubai, you people make a rate card for her.".[3]
  • The film was in the news in connection with the murder of actress Meenakshi Thapa. It was on the sets of this film that Amit Jaiswal and his girlfriend Preeti Surin befriended the actress. They kidnapped her and later murdered her when they found out that her family could not meet their ransom demand. They were convicted and sentenced to life for the murder of Meenakshi Thapa in 2018.[4]
