Trivia

    Album

  • This was Imtiaz Ali's second attempt at telling the film's story. He had used the same story earlier for an episode in Zee TV's anthology mini-series "Rishtey". The episode was first aired in 1999. It had the same title as this film and the lead characters had the same names.[1]
  • The film was conceived as one without any songs. However, Imtiaz Ali's vision for the film evolved as it progressed and nine songs ended up being recorded for it eventually. All the film's songs except one - "Sooha Saaha" - were recorded after the film had been shot.[2][3]

    Song

  • Patakha Guddi (Female Version) - This was the debut Hindi film song of the Nooran sisters, Jyoti and Sultana Nooran.
  • Maahi Ve - This song wasn't part of the film's score originally. It started as a portion of another song from the film, "Patakha Guddi", and was then developed into a different song.[4]
  • Sooha Saaha - Actress Alia Bhatt debuted as a playback singer in this song.
  • Patakha Guddi (Male Version) - Imtiaz Ali wanted A.R. Rahman to sing this song. Rahman's style of delivering the high notes in the song was among the key considerations behind the decision. However, the song was entirely in Punjabi, and Rahman's diction in the language wasn't very good. Lyricist Irshad Kamil sent Rahman a recording of the song's lyrics in his voice to help him with his diction. They also met a few times to practice his pronunciation. Finally, Kamil was present when Rahman recorded the song and made corrections when required.[5]
  • Implosive Silence - The voice track in this background score piece was Jonita Gandhi humming another song from the film, "Kahaan Hoon Main", played in reverse.
  • Tu Kuja - The lyrics of this song were inspired by Amir Khusro's ode to Moinuddin Chishti "Kirpa Karo Maharaj".
  • Tu Kuja - The film had another version of this song with slightly different lyrics. This version, sung by Nakash Aziz, was recorded after the film's music was released. Yet another version was recorded in the voice of A.R. Rahman, Murtaza Khan, and Qadir Khan but not used.
