This film was based on the Malayalam short story "Vanmarangal Veezhumpol" ("When Big Trees Fall") written by N.S. Madhavan. Published in 1993, this story was about the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.
Sashi Kumar, the director of this film, is a well-known personality in Malayalam media and the founder of the Asianet TV channel.
This was the debut film of actor Angad Bedi. He is the son of the Indian cricketer Bishan Singh Bedi.
This film featured two Indian Express journalists, Rahul Bedi and Joseph Maliakan, who had covered the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, playing themselves.[1]
