Trivia

    Album

  • This was Hrishikesh Mukherjee's directorial debut. It was perhaps India's first anthology film. It told three stories of three different families who rent out the same house one after the other. The film's opening credits listed the cast members in the order of the stories they featured in with the common cast being listed last.
  • The film opened with a voice-over by actor Balraj Sahni. However, he was not credited in the film.

    Song

  • Munna Bada Pyara Ammi Ka Dulara - Shailendra's lyrics for the first anatra of this song, specifically the line "Kyon na rotiyan ka ped hum laga len", were based on something his son Shaily had said at home to Shailendra's wife. Shaily had been distressed to see his mother work so hard in the kitchen and had expressed a similar sentiment to her.
  • Tedhi Tedhi Humse Phire Saari Duniya - Lyricist Shailendra made an uncredited onscreen appearance playing the harmonium and singing this song. Actor Keshto Mukherjee also has an unusual 'dance' performance in this song.
  • Laagi Naahi Chhoote Ram (Part I) - This song, filmed on Dilip Kumar, was also sung by him. The actor was very apprehensive about singing the song since it was a duet with the formidable Lata Mangeshkar. It took Lata's reassurances and, according to Salil Chowdhury, three brandies before he recorded the final take. He vowed to never sing for films again after this experience.[1]
