Trivia

    Album

  • This film was a remake of the Tamil film "Navarathri" (1964) which was also remade in Telugu as "Navaratri" (1966). These films were known for their lead actors - Sivaji Ganesan in Tamil, A. Nageswara Rao in Telugu and Sanjeev Kumar in Hindi - enacting nine different roles corresponding to Navarasa. Navarasa is a concept in various traditional Indian dances, like Bharatanatyam and Kathakali, that describes the entire gamut of human emotions in nine categories.
  • This film was first offered to actor Dilip Kumar who turned it down and recommended Sanjeev Kumar instead. The film did, however, feature Dilip Kumar - it opened with a commentary on Navarasa by him. The commentary was included in some versions of the film's audio records.[1]
  • Amitabh Bachchan's look in the song "Ee Hai Bambai Nagaria" ("Don", 1977) was inspired by one of the characters played by Sanjeev Kumar in this film.[2][3]
