This was director Kundan Shah's last film before his death in 2017. He had made this film after a long break. The last film he directed before this was "Ek Se Badhkar Ek" (2004).[1]
Kundan Shah had written the initial draft of the film's script in 1995. He had first approached Akshay Kumar with it. When Akshay declined to do the film, his secretary Lokesh Bali took Shah to Madhuri Dixit. Dixit also showed no interest in the film. Shah approached Dixit again in the mid-2000s when she was making a comeback with "Aaja Nachle" (2007). She declined the film again stating that the role was too bold for her. When Shah attempted to resurrect the film the third time, he decided to go with a fresh face and picked debutant Meenakshi Dixit to play the lead role.[2][3][4]
