Trivia

    Album

  • This was music director Salil Chowdhury's only Hindi film as a director. He also wrote its story and screenplay and composed its music.
  • An incident during the making of this film precipitated the disintegration of Meena Kumari's troubled marriage with filmmaker Kamal Amrohi. Their marriage was already troubled and there were reports that the actress was a victim of abuse. The incident in question happened in 1964, on the day of this film's muhurat. Baqar Ali, Amrohi's friend and assistant, had given Meena Kumari's hairdresser Bertha strict instruction to not allow anybody into her makeup room. When Bertha conveyed this to Meena Kumari, she was furious and asked writer and lyricist Gulzar, with whom she had gotten close due to their shared interests in books and poetry, to accompany her to the makeup room. A loud argument and scuffle ensued that ended with Meena Kumari telling Baqar to let Amrohi know that she would not be returning home. While the actress claimed that Baqar had slapped her, Amrohi's assistant denied her allegation. Meena Kumari was true to her word and separated from Amrohi for good after this incident.[MR51]
  • This was the debut Hindi film of the model and actress Persis Khambata. She was credited as "Poonam (Miss India 1965)" in it. Khambata is best known for winning the Miss India title in 1965 and for her role as a bald spaceship navigator in the Hollywood film "Star Trek: The Motion Picture" (1979). She worked in two other Hindi films after this - "Bambai Raat Ki Bahon Mein" (1967) and "Shingora" (1986).[1][2]

    Song

  • Mere Nayan Paakhi Bechare - Salil Chowdhury had originally composed the tune of this song for the Bengali non-film song "O Tui Nayan Pakhi Amaar Re" (1963) sung by Lata Mangeshkar. He used the same tune again for the Malayalam film song "Kannil Meenaadum" ("Neela Ponman", 1975) sung by B. Vasantha and S. Janaki.[3][4]
  • Kubda Chadhe Ghodi Aisa Hoga Kabhi - Salil Chowdhury had used the tune of this song previously for the Bengali film song "Ichchha Kare O Paran Daarey" ("Ganga", 1960) sung by Pankaj Mitra.
  • Manzil Teri Khoj Mein - Salil Chowdhury adapted this composition for the Bengali film song "O Amaar Jato Saadh" ("Srikanter Will", 1979) sung by Aarti Mukherjee.[5]
