Trivia

    Album

  • This was the first Indian film to have been shot inside the NASA research centre.[1]
  • Ashutosh Gowariker had initially offered the lead role in this film to Hrithik Roshan who had turned it down.
  • One of the inspirations behind the story of this film was the NRI couple Aravinda Pillalamarri and Ravi Kuchimanchi, who returned to India and helped bring electricity to a village. Director Ashutosh Gowariker learnt about the couple from the book "Bapu Kuti" by Rajni Bakshi. Ashutosh paid tribute to this book by showing it in the scene where Shah Rukh Khan's character manages a bookstore's billing counter. A significant part of the film - involving Shah Rukh's character's return from the US to meet Kaveriamma and falling in love with her daughter Geeta - was adapted from a 2-episode feature titled "Wapsi" from Zee TV's "Yule Love" series. The TV series was aired in 1993-1994, and the lead role in "Wapsi" was played by Ashutosh Gowariker![2]
  • This was actress Gayatri Joshi's only Hindi film.
  • Veteran filmmaker Lekh Tandon debuted as an actor in this film. It was Shah Rukh Khan who convinced him to take up this assignment. He acted with Shah Rukh two more times - for "Paheli" (2005) and "Chennai Express" (2013). Tandon's association with the actor was not a coincidence. He was the first filmmaker to sign Shah Rukh, giving him his first break for the TV serial "Dil Dariya" (1988 - 1989). The industry veteran refused to take money for his acting work till "Chennai Express" (2013), for which Shah Rukh insisted that he accept a fee. When Lekh Tandon declined to specify his remuneration, Shah Rukh, whose Red Chillies Entertainment banner was co-producing the film, paid him Rs. 11 lakhs for a relatively minor role.[3][4][5]

    Song

  • Pal Pal Hai Bhaari - Producer, director Ashutosh Gowariker himself rendered the spoken lines filmed on actor Rajesh Vivek in this song.
