- This was the official remake of the blockbuster hit Telugu film "Kartavyam" (1990). Vijayashanti, who had won the National Film Award for Best Actress for her role in the Telugu film, reprised the role in the Hindi remake.
- The character played by Vijayashanti in this film was said to be based on the high-profile IPS officer Kiran Bedi. The title of the unofficial, unreleased Hindi remake of this film, "Inspector Kiron" (1991), was meant to highlight the similarity between the real and reel-life characters.
