Ali Azmat is best known for being the lead singer of the Pakistani Sufi-rock band, Junoon. He was born in Abbottabad, Lahore. As a teenager, he started out with a band called ‘Jupiters’ playing covers. When he was only 17, he wrote his first song “Dosti” which became very popular.

He joined the band Junoon in 1990 and toured along with them, releasing albums like “Junoon” (1992), “Talaash” (1993) and “Azadi” (1997). “Sayonee” from “Azadi” went on to become a big hit and his signature song.
In 2003, Ali Azmat left ‘Junoon’ to pursue a solo career as a composer and singer. He started out with the song “Garaj Baras” (“Paap”, 2003) which became very popular. He released his first solo album “Social Circus” in 2005 and followed it up with “Klashinfolk” in 2007. Songs from these albums were later used in the film “Tera Kya Hoga Johnny” (2009).
