Born on 19 July 1928, Anwar Farrukhabadi was an Urdu poet from Farrukhabad district in Uttar Pradesh. He moved to Mumbai in 1945 to work in the Hindi film industry.

As a lyricist, he contributed over two thousand songs to films. He has also written ghazals and qawwalis, the most memorable being “Humein Toh Loot Liya Milke Husn Walon Ne” in the movie “Al Hilal” (1958). The likes of Manna Dey, Mohd Rafi, Sabir Brothers and Pankaj Udhas have all lent their voices to his words.
