Asheem Chakravarty (1957-2009) was a founding member of one of India’s premier rock bands, The Indian Ocean. He was the lead vocalist and the percussionist (mainly tabla) in the band.

Although Asheem was not formally trained in music, he quit his job in advertising and followed his passion for music to form Indian Ocean, along with friend, Susmit Sen.

He was 52 years old when he passed away on 25 December 2009 in Delhi following a heart attack.
