Narendra Chanchal is a playback singer in the Hindi film industry. He won the Filmfare Award for the Best Playback Singer (Male) in the year 1974 for his debut song “Beshak Mandir Masjid Todo” in Raj Kapoor’s “Bobby” (1973).
He was born into a religious family in Namak Mandi, Amritsar as Narendra Kharbanda. Later, he adopted his nickname “Chanchal” (given to him by his teacher for being mischievous) as his surname. In Bollywood, he has collaborated with music directors like R.D. Burman, Laxmikant Pyarelal, Kalyanji-Anandji, Sonik Omi, Anand Bakshi and S. Madan. “Benaam” (1974), “Jaggu” (1975), “Bhakti Mein Shakti” (1978), “Aasha” (1980) and “Sardara Kartara” (1980) are some of the movies he has sung in.
