Preeti Sagar used to be a playback singer in Bollywood in the seventies.
Her popular songs include the folk number “Mero Gaam Katha Paare” from “Manthan” (1978) for which she was won the Filmfare Award for Best Female Playback Singer and “My Heart is Beating” from the 1975 Rajesh Roshan film “Julie” for which she won a nomination.
However, comparisons of her to Geeta Dutt and Asha Bhosle soon became prevalent. Unable to create a space for herself she gradually faded from the Bollywood scene. Instead she focused on children’s entertainment and education industry recording many nursery rhyme collections in Hindi and English.
Popular tracks she has lent her voice to include “Piya Baaj Pyaala Piya Jaye Na” (“Nishant”, 1975), “Tumhare Bin Jee Naa Lage” (“Bhoomika”, 1977), “What's Your Problem” (“Kalyug”, 1981) and “Shamsher Bhare Na Maang Ghazab” (“Mandi”, 1983).
In 2010, she sang the official theme song of the UIDAI project called “Yeh Hai Mera Pehchaan”. She owns a production company called Angela films which does advertising, short films and feature film dubbing.
