RDB (short for Rhythm, Dhol, Bass) is a UK-based band who have also worked in Bollywood movies as singers and music directors. Their self-titled debut album came out in 2001.
The band was begun in 2000 by the three Punjabi Sikh Ral brothers-Kuldeep, Manjeet and Surjeet. Their passion for music was instilled in them by their father who taught them to play the harmonium along with religious songs in the Gurudwara. RDB’s music style brings together South Asian music and Hip Hop.
“Shera Di Kaum” (“Speedy Singhs”, 2011), “Sadi Gali” (“Tanu Weds Manu”, 2011), title track of “Yamla Pagla Deewana” (2011), “Paisa Paisa” (“Dan Dana Dan”, 2009), “Om Mangalam” (“Kambakkht Ishq”, 2009), title track of “Singh is Kinng” (2008) and “Rafta Rafta” (“Namastey London”, 2007) are some of their songs in Bollywood.
The award for the “Best Club DJ Bhangra” came their way at the UK Asian Music Awards in 2003. They have also been featured on the Brampton Walk of Fame.
Sadly, one of the brothers, Kuldeep Ral, succumbed to brain tumour on 22 May 2012.
