Sandhya Mukherjee (aka Sandhya Mukhopadhyay) was a playback singer in Hindi and Bengali film industry. Born in Kolkata, she was conferred West Bengal’s highest civilian honour of Banga-Vibushan in 2011. She considers Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan and his son her gurus in classical music.
Her debut song in Hindi was R.C. Boral’s "Ha Hans Ke Jiye Ja" ("Anjangarh", 1948). Some of her popular songs include "Ashkon Mein Chhipi Ulfat" ("Pehla Aadmi", 1950), "Aa Gup Chup Pyar Karen" ("Sazaa", 1951) and "Bol Papihe Bol Re Kaun Tera Chitchor" ("Tarana", 1951). In Hindi, she has worked with music directors like Sali Chowdhury, Bulo C. Rani, Madan Mohan, Roshan, Anil Biswas, S.D. Burman and Robin Chatterjee.
She is married to poet Shyamal Gupta.
