Uttam Singh is a music arranger and music director. He learnt music from his father who was a distinguished sitar player. Subsequently, he learnt to play the tabla and violin in Mumbai when he was 12 years old.
He got his first break in the year 1963, when he got an opportunity to work as a violinist with Mohammad Safi in his documentary film. He also worked with composers like S.D. Burman, Naushad, Roshan, Madan Mohan and C. Ramchandra.
He also worked as the main violinist for R.D. Burman. After many decades in the film industry, he tasted solo success as music director for the blockbuster hit "Dil To Paagal Hai" Some of the movies for which Uttam Singh composed music are “Dil To Pagal Hai” (1997). He also composed for other films like "Dushman" (1998) and "Gadar - Ek Prem Katha" (2001) but could not replicate the success of "Dil To Pagal Hai".
