- Hemant Kumar had originally composed the tune of this song for the Bengali film song "Ei Raat Tomar Amar" ("Deep Jwele Jaai", 1959). When director Asit Sen remade "Deep Jwele Jaai" (1959) in Hindi as "Khamoshi" (1969), Hemant Kumar had to compose a new tune to replace "Ei Raat Tomar Tomar Amar". The result was another iconic song, "Tum Pukar Lo Tumhara Intezar Hai" ("Khamoshi", 1969). Such was the popularity of "Ei Raat Tomar Amar" and its significance in the Bengali original, that Asit Sen insisted on Hemant Kumar using the same tune for its Hindi equivalent. However, since Hemant Kumar had already used its tune earlier for this song, he was not willing to repeat it for another Hindi film song. He came up with a clever compromise instead. While recording this song, Hemant Kumar discarded the introduction to "Ei Raat Tomar Amar". He took this introduction as-is for "Tum Pukar Lo Tumhara Intezar Hai" ("Khamoshi", 1969) but came up with a completely different tune for the rest of it.[1][2]
