Trivia

  • Prior to this song, record labels used to credit the films' characters as singers and radio shows did not announce singer names. For example, this song was credited to Kamini, Madhubala's character in the film who sang this song. This song is credited with changing this practice and singers' getting their due. It became so popular that people started calling radio shows and the label to find out the singer's name. Eventually, radio shows started announcing the singer's name - Lata Mangeshkar - and the labels started crediting the actual singers on the records.[1][MR7]
  • Khemchand Prakash wanted the opening of this song to sound as if it were being sung from a distance. Lata Mangeshkar was asked to stand away from the mike for the opening and walk towards it while singing it. The catch was that she had to be at the mike to sing the second verse which started right after the opening. It was only after several rehearsals that they managed to record the song.[MR7]
  • The song was licensed to be used in the film "Khamoshiyan" (2014) which was inspired by this film.[2]
